Coco & Tautou: A marketing affair

Here is the official poster for the upcoming Chanel biopic Coco avant Chanel (Coco Before Chanel ) with the French actress Audrey Tautou. Directed by Anne Fontaine, Tautou plays the young designer from her obscure childhood to her rise to the top. It will be released in 2009. Although it will begin with Chanel's childhood, the plot will mainly follow her as a young woman, during the time she worked as a cabaret singer and became involved with the wealthy horse breeder Étienne Balsan and then the English polo player Arthur "Boy" Capel, both of whom were instrumental in leading her to a career in fashion.

Audiences and fashion fans would still have two other movies based on the designer to look forward to. One, about Chanel's relationship with Igor Stravinsky, will reportedly be directed by William Friedkin and will star another french actress Marina Hands.

This can be called a perfect marketing timing ...This is why Tautou has been choose for the new Chanel bestseller N°5 advertising icon. The ad will be directed by Jean-Pierre Jeunet.

The N°5 was created in 1921 by Ernest Beaux For Gabrielle Chanel. It was called Chanel No. 5 because it was the fifth of several fragrances Ernest Beaux made for Chanel to choose from.
